On June 21st Mali’s rival rebel groups signed a peace accord that everyone is hoping will bring a new beginning here in Mali. Yes, this is one of many peace accord’s that have been discussed since the coup-d’etat in 2012 but everyone, myself included, is hoping that this is the one that sticks.
I have been reflecting a lot on decision making. You know, the painstaking, grueling process we go through to make the big choices in life. I’ve been thinking about how easily the few negative instances can so easily taint our hope and view of the future. Yet so many Malians are deciding not to take the easy way out on this one. They are deciding to put their faith in a better more united Mali – despite facing years of adversity and tensions that have resulted in turmoil, death, and pain.
